Matt has posted a few production diary “podcasts” on his website. The Matt Garvin Experience I don’t know why he calls them podcasts instead of videos. Is there a difference? Maybe it’s a Mac thing. I’ll have to ask him about it.

Anyway, one of the podcasts includes footage of Connie getting her full head cast. She handled it like a champ, but told me later that she was totally freaked out the whole time. She said that she would have ripped the stuff off her face if I hadn’t told her that we didn’t have enough supplies to do another one. Yay guilt trip!

Also, the name of the movie has been officially changed from The Girl Who Ate Prom to Prompocalypse. I think it’s a much better name. PROMPOCALYPSE!!! Scary.

Mustaches For Everyone!

We have two actors that are playing more than one role in the movie. They’re each playing three to be exact. Travis is playing a dad and his two sons, and Matt is playing two cops and a teacher. We’ve been using bald caps, glasses, and mustaches to make them look different in each role. I do a fake tan on one of Travis’s charscters, but it doesn’t really show up in black and white.

Today we did a ripped out throat. It was my first time doing any blood tubing, and I was totally making it up along the way, but I think it came out pretty good. We were shooting at One Eyed Jacks, which is a rock and roll bar in the French Quarter, and I got to spray chocolate syrup all over the dance floor. I can’t wait until I get to spray some of the actors. Man, this stuff is so much fun.

Here’s a video of our producer showing off his fake mustache. That’s our director off camera trying and failing to sing the snake charmer song. I mean, really, who doesn’t know how the snake charmer song goes?

Today was a pretty laid back day. Only three scenes to shoot, and just straight makeup. Everything went smoothly until I asked the producer’s son to hand me my soda. He picked up the can, handed it to me, and vomited skittles all over my jeans. Thank god for 91% isopropyl alcohol.

The Girl Who Ate Prom is a horror comedy that I am working on in New Orleans. We have a little bitty budget, and some very talented actors. This is my first job, and I’m doing all the makeup, so I pretty much eat, sleep and breathe for this film. It’s a LOT of work, but it’s also one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my life.
